Vienna
Residence Orchestra
The
Vienna Residence Orchestra, a chamber orchestra with a long
tradition, was established by pianist and conductor
Paul Moser
in order to present the Viennese classics in full. The numerous
ranges of events in recent decades were presented in Vienna’s
most beautiful palace. The orchestra plays pieces from Mozart to
Johann Strauss with between 10 and 40 musicians. In 1991 the
orchestra was the official Austrian representative at Mozart’s
anniversary celebrations and played numerous concerts at the
“Wiener Klangbogen” festival.
In 1992 world-famous Rudolf Nurejev became the orchestra’s first
guest director. Nurejev was quickly seen throughout Europe with
the Vienna Residence Orchestra and met with sensational success.
Important European artists were guests alongside the Vienna
Residence Orchestra: Rainer Küchl, The Vienna Philharmonic’s
concertmaster, star tenor Jochen Kowalski, conductors Arild
Remmereit, Guiseppe Lanzetta, Herbert Roggenburg, and many
others beside. The Vienna Residence Orchestra attends the
well-known international festival. The stations on the way to a
successful, global career included: Paris, Berlin, Rome, Venice,
Ravello, Deauville, Athens, the Budapest
National Opera, Varese, Montevideo, Mexico, Brussels, Salzburg
and the Vienna Music Association. Today the Vienna Residence
Orchestra is one of the world’s best chamber orchestras. The
orchestra’s concertmaster is one of the world’s best violinists
who after huge international success makes appearances as a
soloist with leading orchestras around the world.
Under the musical leadership of Prof. Christian Pollack and
guest conductors Gerhard Lagrange, Daniel- Hoyem Cavazza and
Mag. Zoltán Janikovic, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra plays
concerts every day in the most beautiful Vienna palace: in small
and large groups, with famous opera singers, ballet dancers and
with musical delights that match the appropriate seasonal theme.
The VRO’s Mozart and Strauss concerts are one of the cultural
highlights of any journey to Vienna.
